Your Best Year in Creativity

Your Best Year in Creativity
April 05, 2016

How is April already here? We’re not quite sure, but we’re pretty darn happy about it. That’s because, this month, we’re honing in on one of our favorite themes yet—your best year in creativity.

As planners, creativity is a word that’s thrown out there a lot. But, I really love today’s quote because it talks about creativity in a more substantive way—creativity as it relates to fear and failure (and fear of failure).

I find that we often only scratch the surface of creativity—we talk about floral arrangements and tablescapes. We brainstorm ceremony ideas and collaborate on colors. We talk dresses, decor, design. And, don’t get me wrong, all of this is centered around creativity, but I try to remind myself that creativity is about more than just aesthetics.

More so than look-and-feel, creativity is about a mindset. It’s about shaking our fear of being wrong, owning our ideas, and not apologizing for failures that were made in good faith. It’s about adopting a philosophy of willingness. Being willing to leave our comfort zone. Being willing to push the envelope. Being willing to be “wrong.” It’s about tapping into our inner child and letting that adventurous little one play until the cows come home. These are the things creativity is centered on. Because, if you’re not willing to do those things, you won’t be able to reach your full potential as a planner.

Without a creative mindset—a brave and willing one—tablescapes and floral arrangements and color palettes don’t mean much. Without a creative mindset, our designs would fall flat, they’d be surface-level, they’d be lacking. Our work should be an expression of our utmost creative self. Not just a self who browses blogs and collaborates with creatives, but a self who adapts the most creative mindset possible. A self who is willing to play. A self who is willing to be wrong.

Cheers to living our best year in creativity yet!
